Our Services

Agile Power Professionals, Inc. offers a vast range of relay services for energy companies and electrical facilities including in-depth commissioning, maintenance and acceptance testing. The talented field technicians and personnel at APP provide testing and commissioning services in an efficient, responsive and reliable manner.

APP is known for delivering reliable and authentic high-quality relay testing services at affordable and market-competitive prices without sacrificing quality or safety—all of which has helped make it a main provider for relay services.

Commissioning

Commissioning

The commissioning process usually begins in the design phase of the project and it is essential to the startup of any electrical system for the first time. The design review focuses on test requirements, sequences of operation, accessibility for maintenance and operations, and essential system equipment design. Commissioning includes comprehensive testing of settings, logic and control to verify customer design. In addition, it also includes acceptance testing of relays and Factory Acceptance Tests (upon customer request).

Electrical commissioning confirms that equipment meets optimum performance standards and provides customized documentation of testing activities to use as a benchmark for future testing.

Maintenance Testing

Maintenance Testing

Proper maintenance testing is essential to keep protective systems in good working condition. A solid maintenance program helps identify the root cause of system events, avoid costly emergency repairs and maintain a safe working environment.

A comprehensive maintenance test includes relay testing, full circuit integrity and functional testing of protection systems. This type of testing assists in evaluation and health analysis of customer equipment.

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), defines mandatory requirements for periodic maintenance of essential power systems related to the Bulk Electric System or BES. While preventative maintenance is not required for general, non BES loads, it is recommended as an industry best practice. This method of testing includes the following services:

  • Evaluation and health analysis of customer equipment
  • Full elemental testing (by customer request)
  • Functional testing of protection systems (Dynamic when possible)
  • Regulatory support for systems that fall under NERC standards
  • Customized documentation of testing activities
  • Enhanced documentation for regulatory evidence
Protection System Maintenance Planning

Protection System Maintenance Planning

A proper and well-designed maintenance plan enhances the safety, reliability and overall efficiency of a whole power system. It identifies and recognizes the factors affecting power system equipment and provides cost effective solutions for mitigation. An effective protection system maintenance plan includes the following procedures:

  • System review and recommendations
  • Maintenance plan development
  • Regulatory planning assistance
  • Implementation and training
  • Regulatory support during audit and data requests
Work Procedure and Process Development

Work Procedure and Process Development

Standard work procedures and proper work flow definitions are required before commencement of any electrical testing routine. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) regulate and streamline processes which results in improved site productivity. Work procedures and process development are required to be in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70 safety standards. It includes the following key points.

  • Development of standard written work procedures for testing purposes
  • Process development for work flow
Regulatory Support

Regulatory Support (NERC)

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), is the governing body that develops reliability standards which are implemented throughout the electric utility industry in order to improve reliability, stability and security. At APP, we can review your electrical system and aid with requirements applicability, audit reporting audit preparation and data requests.

The key features of regulatory body are the following:

  • Assistance with interpretation of regulatory requirements
  • Review of systems to assist with requirement applicability
  • Audit support including mock audits and data requests
  • PSMP (Protection System Maintenance Program) and RSAW (Reliability Standard Audit Worksheet) development consultation
Training

Power System Training

This training is specifically designed to provide in-depth knowledge of electrical power systems and is suitable to those who are looking to sharpen their skills or need additional education on power systems. Target audience include supervisors, managers, and other non-trade or laypersons.

We provide customers with innovative, practical, and cost-effective System Overview Training which will help them to understand the basic concepts of power system engineering and how to start a successful career in the power engineering field.

We also provide NERC regulatory training specifically related to the PRC maintenance standard and Protection System Maintenance requirements. The APP regulatory training is grounded with best-practices, know-how, and implementation strategies for large and small energy companies that must comply with the PRC standards.

In short APP, offers two types of training to the customers:

  • Systems Overview Training
  • Regulatory Training
